Purim in Williamsburg Brooklyn, NY circa 1980s spring holiday commemorating queen Esther saving the jews from Haman. In Hasidic communities the day is a time to dress up in costumes related to the historic event (Haman, Esther) or as anything a policemen, clowns, halloween masks of animals, one year a Patriot Missiles, cartoon characters, even a quart of milk. Families gift food baskets to friends and children are out collecting money and treats from all. Teenage boys also drink and become crazy on the streets.
